How can landscape help us heal?

We design and realise healthy cities with the conviction that mindfulness is integral to urban life. The environments we inhabit shape how we feel, move and connect. By combining landscape design, ecological thinking and research into human wellbeing, we create places that are restorative, inclusive and resilient. Through our research into healing landscapes, we explore how design can support everyday wellbeing by:

  • Enhancing orientation through intuitive landscapes
  • Creating environments that feel safe, familiar and welcoming
  • Providing spaces for reflection, recovery and social connection
  • Encouraging movement, exploration and active living
  • Enriching sensory experience through connections with nature
How can landscape help us heal?

The growing need for healing landscapes

As urbanisation intensifies, everyday environments are increasingly defined by noise, pollution, overstimulation, stress, isolation and reduced contact with nature. These pressures can undermine wellbeing, making the quality of public space more important than ever. Research shows that access to nature, daylight and restorative environments can reduce anxiety, improve concentration and support recovery among urban populations. Across scales, we translate these principles into spatial strategies and tangible interventions that make wellbeing a measurable quality of everyday life, creating places where people and nature can thrive together.

Legible, intuitive environments empower people to navigate independently, fostering confidence, comfort and a sense of belonging
Human-scale spaces, familiar materials and thoughtful design create environments where people feel comfortable, secure and at ease
A balance of restorative retreats and vibrant gathering spaces supports mental wellbeing, social cohesion and everyday recovery
Inviting routes, attractive destinations and opportunities for discovery encourage healthy movement and engagement with the landscape
Biodiverse landscapes engage the senses, strengthen connections with nature and create healthier environments for people and ecosystems alike
